The eldest son of Vincent Vingerhut, who was the duke of Razril, Snowe lived a pampered life only forming a real friendship with Lazlo, who was adopted as a servant to the Vingerhut household. Snowe often played with Lazlo in their youth, even taking Lazlo on a hunt for furballs after receiving a sword as a gift. During this hunt, they ran into Andarc, Kyril, Seneca, Walter and Yohn - who were pursuing a fishman. Walter and the others aided the young boys in their hunt before going their seperate ways.

His father's prominent position led to Snowe's position in the Gaien Marine Knights even though Commander Glen Cott did what he could to curb Duke Vingerhut's influence. A competent, but poorly trained (in part due to his pampered role) cadet, Snowe was often given roles of importance during training although always under the supervision of experienced Gaien Knights assigned to oversee the youth.

Upon graduation from the Marine Academy, Snowe's father once again used his influence in order to have Snowe appointed as captain of a vessel. Panicking and abandoning his ship during an encounter with pirates while on an escort mission to Iluya, Snowe fell completely out of favour with the Gaien Knights, with Lazlo being praised as hero for securing the ship and defeating the pirates. This incident, coupled with Snowe's unwillingness to accept responsibility led to his becoming envious of Lazlo.

Snowe witnessed the death of Glen Cott and the transfer of the Rune of Punishment to Lazlo, but without anything to put the event into the proper context coupled perhaps with lingering resentment towards his friend, Snowe accused Lazlo of murdering Glen. His father's influence forced this shaky testimony to be accepted without further investigation and Lazlo was exiled to the seas. Following this incident, Vincent once again pulled strings behind the scenes, appointing his son as the new Commander of the Gaien Knights
